Trigger warnings on over 1000 university texts

UK universities are issuing warnings where books might be upsetting for students.

UK universities are issuing trigger warnings, telling students that over 1000 books might be upsetting or even traumatising.

At least ten universities have even removed books from reading lists or made them optional out of concerns they might ‘harm’ students. Books include Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Underground Railroad. Miss Julie, the classic play by August Strindberg, has been ‘permanently withdrawn’ from a literature module at the University of Sussex.

Other texts have been made optional on account of their ‘challenging’ content.
