Could UK schools adopt a 4 day week?

American schools are trialling 4 days weeks with longer teaching days

Over 1,600 schools in 24 US states have moved to a four-day schedule, giving pupils and teachers either Fridays or Mondays off. The four-day schedules generally have longer days to make up for the time missed on the day off.

Pupils say they love it. Teachers say they to get more done during the longer periods, with fewer transitions that cut into teaching time. Attendance is up and staff recruitment has been easier too.

Some researchers have found a short-term academic benefit, others found learning loss after the three-day weekend.  One report says the  adoption of four-day school weeks is often financially motivated and has generally remained a small, rural district phenomenon.
